Durham World Heritage Site Lecture Series

World Heritage Site Architecture and Conservation Lecture Series 2015

August Lecture

Thursday 27th August 2015, 6.30pm

Venue: Room PG20 Pemberton Building, Palace Green, Durham

JANE GIBSON

“A sustainable future for World Heritage Sites:  a Local and International Perspective”

Building on her first year as Durham World Heritage Site Centre Co-ordinator, Jane will share some insights into how the new Management Plan can be used to ensure a sustainable and vigorous future for the Durham World Heritage Site. By also looking at the greater challenges to World Heritage Sites world-wide, the talk will help to put our own challenges and issues into perspective.

Jane Gibson is the Co-ordinator for the Durham Castle and Cathedral World Heritage Site. Her career has seen her working in the heritage sector since graduating in Archaeology from Durham University in the early 1980’s. After 20 years working in National Museums in the field of Collections Management, she returned to the North East of England as Head of Historic Operations at Beamish Museum. More recently she led the Heritage Development programme for Hexham Abbey’s successful £3m project to refurbish their monastic buildings, to create a new visitor centre, café and community facilities and managed Arts Council England’s Major Partner Museums programme for Cumbria. Nearing the end of her first year in her new post in Durham, she is working on the new five-year Management Plan for the City’s World Heritage Site.

The talk will be followed by a drinks reception in the World Heritage Site Visitor Centre.

Please book your place by writing to Raffaella Aliprandi at raffaella.aliprandi@durham.ac.uk.

Would you also let Rafaella know whether or not you will be attending the reception afterwards, for catering purposes.

Please circulate this information to whoever you think might be interested.

I can’t find a list of upcoming lectures. Isn’t Nick Card Coming on October 3rd? Can you tell me where, when and how to book.
    Thanks

      Hi Lorraine,

I’ve just posted the list of this series through to the end of the year, but there’s no lecture mentioned by Nick Card. The 3rd October is a Saturday, and the organisers of this series do tend to hold them in the week, so I think if there is one it must be organised by somebody else

If I hear anything I’ll do my best to let you know, but I don’t seem to have any details about that one.

Sorry we can’t help this time!

      Best wishes,

      Jo
