Kirknewton Archaeology Festival 15-17th August 2014

The Kirknewton Archaeology Festival will be based in Kirknewton in the Northumberland National Park. The event builds upon the hugely successful event held two years ago and is organised entirely by Voluntary Rangers with the assistance of staff at the National Park and Northumberland County Council and on the Gefrin Trust.

The event will take place first on the 15th, 16th and 17th of  August 2014 with a series of Guided Walks between August 31st and September 5th.

Highlights include:

*        Demonstrations of ancient crafts including pottery, textiles, horn and wood carving;

*        Visits to the Anglian Royal Township site of Ad Gefrin by archaeologist Roger Miket

*        Have a go archery

*        A one-day literature course on Border Ballads (advanced booking essential)

*        Exhibition featuring the work of local archaeological societies
